Derek A Smith Associates was established in Preston in 1992 and has developed an

excellent reputation for delivering fine foods and outstanding service. Our clients now

include many banks‚ building societies‚ local authority departments‚ housing associations

and many others.

Our fully trained staff have recognised qualifications in health and hygiene‚ and we are well

used to dealing with large‚ high profile events‚ where preparation and careful attention to

detail really matter.

We use nothing but the freshest ingredients and we maintain strict quality control by

producing more than 90% of all our food in-house. Only specialist products are sourced externally and‚ in such cases‚ only the finest suppliers are selected.

We have built our reputation on dependability and our willingness to deliver exactly what

the customer wants‚ every time. That means that we are perfectly happy to work with you to produce a tailor made menu‚ where the emphasis might be on healthy eating‚ local produce

or any number of special dietary requirements.

We run our own small fleet of temperature controlled delivery vans and‚ in addition to the

food‚ we can also provide all the glassware‚ crockery‚ cutlery and other equipment that

you might need.

Derek A Smith

Derek served an apprenticeship as a baker and confectioner before joining the Royal Air Force as a chef. After leaving the RAF, Derek was fortunate to work with the celebrated European chef, Karl Loderer. With continual training and experience Derek started his own bakery and confectionery business, before being appointed Senior Lecturer and Head of the School of Catering at a northwest college.

As Chairman of Hooray for Home Cooking, Derek, together with Lady Grenfell-Baines was responsible for bringing the Remoska® to the British public. He has extensively tested and used the Remoska®. He has provided several recipes and helped write and produce the cookbooks ‘Remoska Cooking’ and ‘Cooking with the Remoska’.

He has been a Justice of the Peace for over twenty years and is Chairman of both Heartbeat Trustees Committee and Preston Town Twinning Partnership. Derek is married to Collette and has three grown-up children.
